Our Why

Hello!

For a long time, I felt like meeting people should be easier than it was.

Not because people don’t care. I think most people do. But somewhere along the way, apps started doing a lot of the work that everyday moments used to do. We started looking down at our phones, second guessing ourselves, or waiting for someone else to make the first move.

I created Lu because I wanted to make real-life connection feel easier and less awkward.

The Lu Signals are one part of that. They are simple things people can wear to show what they are open to. Something that signals whether you are up for a chat, keen to make new friends, open to meeting someone, or just doing your own thing.

But Lu is also bigger than the Signals.

It is about helping people and communities build the skills, confidence and shared language we need to reconnect in real life.

Through events, resources and work with organisations, Lu supports people to create spaces where boundaries are respected, conversations feel easier, and people feel safer to show up as themselves no matter where they are.

Lu is for the people who want fewer guessing games and more honest, everyday moments. It is for the people who look around and know we can do better. It is for the people who still believe in putting the phone away, having deeper conversations and building community.

It is not about forcing anything. It is about making space for people to be seen, respected and free to choose what feels right for them.

The idea for Lu came from a very real feeling:

Being surrounded by people, wanting to reach out, but not knowing where to start.

So, I made something to help people start.

From this simple beginning, my hope is that Lu continues to grow into something that helps people and organisations create more respectful, connected communities in everyday life.
